VIC – How to validate the competence of “integration”?

VIC – How to validate the competence of “integration”?

After the arrival of hundreds of thousands of refugees over the last two years, Europe is now facing the task of integrating these refugee immigrants with a legal title to stay. A number of different educational offers aim to facilitate the integration of immigrants into the labor market and into society in general, but there is no common, precise and operational definition of this “integration skill”. The effectiveness of integration programs is also not measured and their impact on individual integration skills has not been assessed yet. So what does “integration” mean and how can we define it for validation?

This question was in focus of the second VIC (Validating Integration Competences of Refugees) project meeting, April 10/11 in Vienna, which was hosted by die Berater®. Finally the VIC project team agreed on the UNESCO statement from 1984: “Learning to live together in a diverse society”, which will now be the motto for developing the VIC set of competences. In the next months, appropriate tools for the validation process will be developed and tested in the context of educational courses for refugees.

EMPROVE – A social innovation with the power of games

EMPROVE – A social innovation with the power of games

Last week the EMPROVE team met in Göttingen/ Germany, reviewing the feedback from testing the EMPROVE innovative platform in six EU countries! In the EMPROVE project, an online learning platform for survivors of domestic violence is developed. In this platform, a game based approach is used that gives participants the chance to reflect on their learning and to motivate them to engage in learning over a longer period of time. The team used the meeting to update the online products – a process which is coordinated by die Berater®.  The official launch of the platform will approach soon.
