Training for Empowerment

Training for Empowerment

The empowerment of survivors of domestic violence and the improvement of training approaches in this field of adult education is the focus of the ERASMUS+ project EMPROVE.

From 5-10 November the transnational Train-the-Trainer took place in Gijon (Spain) and hosted the EMPROVE team as well as front-line professionals from seven European countries. Participants had the chance to learn and share expertise in a huge range of areas including emotional intelligence, personal assessment, communication skills, the labour market, and personal mindset. Another important part of the training course was the introduction of the EMPROVE platform – an interactive tool which uses gamification techniques to engage and encourage users and which is developed in close cooperation between the two partners CATRO and die Berater®. Having completed the training course, participants will then provide a national training and introduction to the EMPROVE approach and platform in their respective countries.

Stories of young people told through digital tools

Stories of young people told through digital tools

From 18th to 22nd September 2017 the Tell Your Story training course took place at CESIE in Palermo (Italy). The project involved 18 NEETs – young people who are not in education, employment, or training – from 16 to 25 years and 1 trainer per partner organisation coming from 6 different countries: Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia, UK and Belgium.

The youngsters, selected for their common early school leaving experience, had the opportunity to spend 5 intensive days sharing their stories through several tools. They were able to learn about what storytelling means and which are the ways to tell a story, focusing then on digital storytelling.

Network Recommendations on Learning Guidance in Work-Based Learning

Network Recommendations on Learning Guidance in Work-Based Learning

Interest, need and participation in work-based learning (WBL) have steadily increased in Europe in recent years. This is partly a direct response to policy-level targets and priorities and partly a natural reflection of the changing nature of the workforce and the workplace. The project “Level-up! Workplace Tutor goes Europe” aims at increased professionalism and improved qualification of in-company VET personnel as one of the key actors of work-based learning.

Furthermore, the project is currently initiating a European stakeholder debate on issues concerning VET policy. In their recent publication “Network Recommendations on Learning Guidance in Work-Based Learning” the project partners reflect developments in the partner countries of the Level Up! project, and discuss the roles of the key actors in the implementation of WBL at different levels of education and in different types of organisations and workplaces. The brochure also provides examples of good practices in arranging work-based learning and guidance from around Europe.

M-Easy – Make Maths Manageable!

M-Easy – Make Maths Manageable!

According to OECD’s PISA study (2012)  19% of Austrian school leavers are low achievers in mathematics (EU-28: 22%). The Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), conducted in 2014-2015, reveals that 25% of Austrian adults have deficits in problem-solving in technology-rich environments. The new project M-Easy tackles this challenge and the current lack of maths training offers for low-skilled adults.

The project, coordinated by the Lithuanian Social Innovation Fund, will supply high quality e-learning and mobile learning opportunities for improving basic mathematical skills of low-skilled adults, including refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. Local communities will be sensitized about the importance of this kind of educational support through information and capacity building events.

M-Easy has just started with a kick-off meeting in Rzeszow, Poland. In the evaluator’s role die Berater® will bring in their expertise as provider of education and training of people with low levels qualification, with media production and with quality assurance of EU projects.

Communication is Key to Successful Integration

Communication is Key to Successful Integration

Everybody is aware that the ability to communicate effectively is a precondition for refugees and migrants to integrate successfully into their host society. But this is not only true for the incoming migrants, but also for professionals working with them. The VOCAL IN NEED project aims to assist security and integration agency staff (police, border control, porters, trainers, job coaches etc.) to better interact with migrants and refugees through the development of a multi-lingual and intercultural online training. The learning offer will also be available as a mobile app.

The project started with a kick-off meeting at the coordinating institution, Institute of Technology Tralee (Ireland). In a first phase training needs will be analysed through a survey.
