M-Easy – Make Maths Manageable!

M-Easy – Make Maths Manageable!

According to OECD’s PISA study (2012)  19% of Austrian school leavers are low achievers in mathematics (EU-28: 22%). The Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), conducted in 2014-2015, reveals that 25% of Austrian adults have deficits in problem-solving in technology-rich environments. The new project M-Easy tackles this challenge and the current lack of maths training offers for low-skilled adults.

The project, coordinated by the Lithuanian Social Innovation Fund, will supply high quality e-learning and mobile learning opportunities for improving basic mathematical skills of low-skilled adults, including refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. Local communities will be sensitized about the importance of this kind of educational support through information and capacity building events.

M-Easy has just started with a kick-off meeting in Rzeszow, Poland. In the evaluator’s role die Berater® will bring in their expertise as provider of education and training of people with low levels qualification, with media production and with quality assurance of EU projects.

Communication is Key to Successful Integration

Communication is Key to Successful Integration

Everybody is aware that the ability to communicate effectively is a precondition for refugees and migrants to integrate successfully into their host society. But this is not only true for the incoming migrants, but also for professionals working with them. The VOCAL IN NEED project aims to assist security and integration agency staff (police, border control, porters, trainers, job coaches etc.) to better interact with migrants and refugees through the development of a multi-lingual and intercultural online training. The learning offer will also be available as a mobile app.

The project started with a kick-off meeting at the coordinating institution, Institute of Technology Tralee (Ireland). In a first phase training needs will be analysed through a survey.

Tell your story at a glance

Tell your story at a glance

We just published our first News Update from our Tell Your Story Project.
Please click here to read it!

What is Tell Your Story?

Tell Your Story aims at exploring the use of digital storytelling and story mapping in education to combat early school leaving. It also aims to motivate early school leavers to re-enter lifelong learning, thus preventing young people at risk from prematurely dropping out of school or vocational education.
Well-told stories are very powerful artefacts. Digital stories are often presented in compelling, interactive and emotionally engaging formats.
Digital storytelling is therefore a suitable and effective means for young people to communicate their experiences. Storytelling is defined as a short form of digital media production, which allows people to share particular aspects of their lives. “Media” may include full-motion videos with sound, animation, stills, audio, etc., which individuals can use to tell a story or present an idea.

Languages, employability and entrepreneurship. Successful CES&L conference at Trinity College Dublin

Languages, employability and entrepreneurship.
Successful CES&L conference at Trinity College Dublin

At venerable Trinity College in Dublin the CES& project had its well-attended final conference, which at the same time was the launching event of the project’s training module to improve language students’ employability potential.

Entrepreneurship competence is part of the module, and I had the pleasure to introduce this key element in a workshop with career counsellors and academic higher education staff. Hopefully the workshop demonstrated that entrepreneurship is a topic that can be easily integrated in languages and career counselling and, above all that it can be fun, too!

The complete CES&L training module, with learning materials, facilitator notes and accompanying e-elearning content can be accessed very soon at: https://languages4work.eu
